Pre-Game Checklist

I. BEFORE ARRIVAL AT GAME SITE
  A. Contact partner day before the game
  B. Contact partner day of the game
  C. Arrive at game site at least 30 minutes prior to game
  D. Locate your partner
  E. Check in with coach

II. PREGAME CHECKLIST
  A. Coverage
    1. Fly balls: routine and trouble coverages
    2. Base touches and tag-ups
    3. Rotations/coverage of third base
    4. Infield fly
    5. Line drives on the infield
    6. Steals
    7. Fair/foul
    8. Dead-ball areas, overthrow coverages
  B. Getting Help
    1. Check swings
    2. Pulled foot and swipe tags
    3. Ball hitting batter
    4. Dropped third strike
  C. Record Keeping
    1. Conferences
    2. Courtesy runners
    3. Ejection/suspension reports
  D. Miscellaneous
    1. Signals
    2. Ball in play, ball out of play, restarting play after dead ball
    3. Confrontations
    4. Unusual situations
    5. Weather

III. PREGAME ON THE FIELD
  A. Inspect bats and helmets (do it together, don't dawdle)
  B. If you have a dressing room, store illegal/unfit equipment there
  C. Inspect field conditions
  D. Monitor warm-ups

IV. PLATE CONFERENCE
  A. Appearance on Field
    1. Arrive at home plate five minutes before scheduled start
    2. Both teams remain in dugouts
    3. Introductions with coaches
  C. Lineups (Plate Umpire)
    1. Take original from home team first; have coach verify lineup
    2. Give copy to visiting team
    3. Take original from visiting team; have coach verify lineup
    4. Give copy to home team
  D. Playing Field Ground Rules
    1. Plate umpire if he knows them, otherwise home coach
    2. Review rule differences
    3. Dugouts decorum/loose equipment
  E. Player Ground Rules
    1. No throwing of bats or helmets
    2. Offensive players on field must wear helmet at all times
    3. No jewelry (except medical information)
    4. Hustle, return stray balls
  F. Coach Ground Rules
    1. Ask, "Are all of your players properly and legally equipped?"
    2. No arguing of judgment calls
    3. Do not leave the dugout until a proper dead ball is called
    4. Report lineup changes

V. NATIONAL ANTHEM
  A. Stand together on back line of batters boxes
  B. Feet together, left hand at side, cap and right hand on chest
